Bangkok or Krung Threp (“city of angels”) is the capital of Thailand. It is known as the “Venice of the East” for the canals and passages and water-taxis cruising on the Chao Phraya River, the city’s main geographical feature. Bangkok’s ideal location as a trading center gave rise to a multitude of shopping centers, considered some of Asia’s largest, including the largest outdoor market of Asia, Chatuchak.
